Piperade is only a stone's throw away from both North Beach and the Financial District, but it might as well be a million miles away, with tranquil streets until you cross the terrace to encounter an upbeat vibe and a gracious staff. Chef/owner Gerald Hirigoyen brings you flavors of Franco-Basque and California in a woody and warm setting with well-priced Spanish and hard-to-find wines. He's as charming tableside as he is talented in the kitchen.

Hirigoyen's honors and accomplishments cover a dynamic and distinguished spectrum, from being selected as one of "Food & Wine Magazine's Best New Chefs in America" in 1994, to the honor of being San Francisco Magazine's only "Chef of the Year" to be named not just once, but twice: in 1995 and 2003.

Aside from glowing features in journals such as Bon Appetit, Gourmet and The New York Times, Gerald was especially proud to have been nominated by a jury of his peers for the James Beard Award: “Best Chef, Pacific” in 2006.

For both Gerald and his wife, Cameron, giving back to the city and the people that define their business is an important part of Piperade. Over the years Chef Hirigoyen has helped support the community and various non-profit organizations, participating in charity events and donating to fundraisers.
